Resolved Question: Anyone know the recipe for the "ginger" style veggie/shrimp dipping sauce found at many Japanese steakhouses?
I've tried a "tempera" style dipping sauce sold at Asian markets, but it's not quite the same. I know that this brown dipping sauce is not authentic Japanese, more geared towards American culture and tastes. Two dipping sauces are usually provided for vegetable and seafood dipping. One is the orange colored sauce other is a brownish color which I believe contains ginger.
Resolved Question: What are some good appetizers for an Oriental themed cocktail party?
I am planning to serve a few kinds of sushi rolls (California, spicy tuna, Philidelphia) but am open to new recipes, veggie & shrimp tempura, fresh spring rolls (if I can get the rolling part down!), Asian snack mixes and/or spiced nuts & wasabi peas, and a crudite platter. I need to specify that I need meatless recipes, unless it's sea food. Please help! Also, seafood is the only meat I prepare and eat. The party is Saturday! I would like a couple more ideas to play with as this seems too simple, plus, I need a back-up plan in case the sushi and spring rolls are a disaster! Thanks for your answers! I also need something sweet as well.
Resolved Question: Where can I buy Wonton Wrappers???
The only ingredients that I know are in the Pick Up Stix ones are wonton wrappers, cream cheese, and minced water chestnuts. Also, does anyone have a good recipe for cream cheese wontons (a seafood-free version)? I've tried to locate wonton wrappers at my nearest grocery store (Safeway), but haven't found them. Or do I need to go to a specialty foods store or an asian market? Thanks in advance to all the replies :) I'd like to try and recreate a "Cream Cheese Wonton" recipe from a chinese restaurant chain called Pick Up Stix. Do any supermarket chains carry these? I'm in Sacramento, California, so if anyone has any advice, please let me know.

Resolved Question: Asian Cooking using fish heads, fish roe, etc.?
They have an extensive selection of meats and seafood, some of which we have never heard of or tried to cook. We love Asian food, rice noodles, tofu, sesame oil, asian dumplings etc. I have tried asking for cooking instructions but no one in the store can understand English very well and I can't understand them very well. I would appreciate some recipes using these items. We are adventuresome with our cooking and my husband will generally eat what we fix. An Asian Market has opened in our town and my son and I love to shop there.
Voting Question: PLEASE HELP! Asian Recipe?
I need an Asian recipe that has -chicken -beef -pork -seafood This is for school, so I kind of need it from a website, book or magazine because i need APA citations. Can someone please help me?
Resolved Question: I need an authentic Thai beef salad recipe?
I mean the Yam Neua, no the Laab ;] Anyways, if anyone could give me a recipe and please be specific about brands and amounts because I am not asian and if you tell me to get some fish sauce I will not know which kind. His mom makes some really good Thai food. Anyways, even though she makes really good food, she never makes Thai Beef Salad. Lol! So my husband is Laotian and Thai. Oh an could you also tell me how to cook the sticky rice! She makes a version of it but it's made with seafood and it's ok but I'm not crazy about it. I especially like it cause she makes it really spicy ;]!

Resolved Question: How do you make fish ball or seafood soup with egg noodle?
How do you make the fish ball or seafood soup with egg noodle like they have at the asian noodle bars? I've had the seafood soup with egg noodle and it had shrimp, scallop, squid and crab meat too which is really good. I'm guessing you can buy the fish ball pre-made at an asian food store. What is the easiest way to do it? Is the noodle cooked separateley? What is the basic recipe for the stock?

Resolved Question: I need 2 make an ASIAN recipe @ school which can only be put in either the oven or fridge. No seafood involved
Resolved Question: Ideas for Soup with Some Seafood?
I already have tried shrimp and lobster bisques, manhattan and new england clam chowders. The spicier and saltier, the better (love Eastern Asian foods - Korean, Japanese and Chinese.) I have a conservative taste (nothing funky,) and my diet consists of only eggs, seafood and fish. I mean, I really love the broth with small pieces of seafood. Just name it, and I can look up the recipe online. I want something else. Any suggestions? I love soup.

Resolved Question: What kind of recipe could I make for my mom on her birthday?
And please no seafood, except maybe shrimp or tempura, but nothing else. It's going to be a surprise. Maybe Puerto Rican. It also has to be relatively cheap, and not too spicy. We're having cheesecake for desert. I would like it to be unique/interesting but not too "out there." My mom doesn't like highly unusual foods. I would like something that wouldn't be too hard to make, and doesn't take more than a few hours. I was thinking of Italian or maybe Asian, but we have a lot of Italian as it is and so I was thinking of something Latin or Asian. She agreed to let me choose whatever.
Resolved Question: What is a very simple Japanese side dish to make (from scratch)?
And that is not expensive (so preferrably no seafood) and wouldn't spoil overnight. It has to be any asian food but cannot be Chinese (stricly). If recipe or website is included it would be great! Thanks.
Resolved Question: What can I use instead of fish sauce (in Asian food)?
Many recipes have fish sauce (nuoc mam) in the ingredients. What if there already is soy sauce in the ingredients. Wouldn't it be too salty? I'm extremely allergic to fish and seafood but I like Asian food a lot. What could I use instead?
Resolved Question: What should I have for dinner tomorrow?
Preferably under an hour to make, and full recipe included would be great, we were thinking something either Asian or seafood, but other ideas are appreciated.
Resolved Question: I need an awesome seafood recipe?
And, yes, I could just take some ice cream or boiled shrimp, but those are just too easy. I have to make a dish for Marine Bio that has an ingredient that comes from the ocean. There are about 20 of us in the class, so the recipe has to accommodate that many people to be able to get seconds. I'm leaning toward an Asian dish, but any idea is helpful. I'd prefer if the recipe is simple and the ingredients won’t cost much.

I should clarify that I'm looking for clam boullion CUBES. The cioppino recipe I have from Scott's Seafood (www.scottsseafood.com) calls for clam boullion. Can anyone help? I cannot find it in any grocery store, not even the Asian and Mexican grocery stores around here nor any seller on the web.

Resolved Question: Where do I buy Chinese dried black olives for this recipe? Online or Chicago area.?
Top each fillet with about ¼ cup of the sauce. After New Wilson Village, brothers Bob and Wally Chinn served the fish at Kohala Terrace, their (now-closed) Polynesian concept in Northbrook. Sauce: 1 cup soy sauce 1/4 cup sugar 2 1/4 teaspoons each: sesame oil, sherry Pinch white pepper Fish: 4 fillets (7 ounces each) fresh fish, such as halibut, grouper, sea bass 1/4 cup chopped fresh ginger root 2 tablespoons chopped each: Chinese dried black beans, Chinese dried black olives 2 tablespoons cornstarch 1/4 cup chopped cilantro 3 green onions, cut into thin strips For sauce, whisk together all ingredients until sugar is dissolved. When Bob left Kohala to open his namesake restaurant in Wheeling -- now one of the top-grossing seafood restaurants in the country -- he agreed to a 15-year moratorium on selling any Chinese dishes, as a competitive courtesy to his brother. It tried the grocery store on Archer near Phoenix, and couldn't find them there. Lightly sprinkle each fillet with cornstarch. Halibut, grouper or sea bass work well. Serve this simple dish with white rice. Thanks for the responses. Place each fillet in shallow bowl. As it turns out, the dish lives on. When the dish finally moved to Bob Chinn's menu, it became -- and has remained -- his top-selling fish entree. Garnish with cilantro and green onion. Use low-sodium soy sauce if you like. Whisk about 2 tablespoons of the steaming water into the reserved sauce. Chinn says the key is using scrupulously fresh fish. I'll try some of the others. Bob Chinn's Asian-style steamed fish Prep: 12 minutes Cook: 8 minutes Makes: 4 servings Reader Mits Yamada of Chicago was a big fan of the steamed fish with black bean sauce, at Bob Chinn's parents' Chicago restaurant, New Wilson Village, and has missed it since the restaurant closed several years ago. Place fillets in the top of a steamer over almost boiling water; cover each with a thin layer of ginger, dried beans and olives. Set aside. Cover; steam until fish almost flakes when tested with a fork, 9-10 minutes.
